Greg Scruggs is getting quite a bit of hype for his performance in training camp so far, and I’m buying into it. His rookie season in 2012 indicated had some potential to turn into a mainstay on defense, as he recorded two sacks in very limited playing time. But he missed all of 2013 with a torn ACL, and was forced to watch from the sidelines as his team made its run to the Super Bowl.
Now healthy, he’s bulked up — he’s listed at 310 pounds, around 25 pounds more than his rookie season — and has impressed with his speed during this season’s training camp. He’s a definite threat to win a role on the Seahawks’ defensive line, especially now that Red Bryant and Chris Clemons are no longer on Seattle’s roster.
Besides, who doesn’t have a soft spot for players returning from injury, and even more so for athletes with great senses of humor?
